Hello beautiful booknerds
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Here is my Top 10 Tuesday list of Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading and Why. in no particular order.
1- Queen of Shadows (THRONE OF GLASS #4) by Sarah J. Maas
Why I am avoiding it? because I have to reread the first 3 books, it been a long time since I read them, and reading 7 whole books is time consuming.
2- Magic Study (POISON STUDY #2) by Maria V. Snyder
Why I am avoiding it? I think there is a character that I loved so much in the first book may not be in this book.
3- War Storm (RED QUEEN #4) by Victoria Aveyard
Why I am avoiding it? I read the first couple of pages of this book, and kinda made me a little dissapointed, so now I am trying to lower my expectations, because whenever I try to read it, I get pissed and end up closing the book.
4- Wonder Woman: Warbringer (DC ICONS #1) by Leigh Bardugo
Why I am avoiding it? the fact that a 3 amazing authors that I admire each wrote a book in a series about superheros haven’t fully sunk in yet, I love superheros and it kinda weird that authors I know and love are writing about them, I would never look at these superheros the same way again. after I read the series I’m gonna associate this series with the actual superheros, I may never be able to watch their movies again.
5- Three Dark Crowns (THREE DARK CROWNS #1) by Kendare Blake
Why I am avoiding it? it has so much hype around, also my expectations are so high.
6- Passenger (PASSENGER #1) by Alexandra Bracken
Why I am avoiding it? I read books about time travel before and they disappointed me, I’m worried this will be the same.
7- The Dream Thieves (THE RAVEN CYCLE #2) by Maggie Stiefvater
Why I am avoiding it? I read the first book and it disappointed me, but I do like the characters so I want to give it another chance, and I already have purchased the whole series, I purchased them before I started reading the first book, it never crossed my mind at the time that I may not enjoy it.
8- Caraval (CARAVAL #1) by Stephanie Garber
Why I am avoiding it? I heard so much mixed things about this series, to me it sounded good, but I don’t like to read hyped books, I try so hard to lower my expectations, mostly I’m good, unfortunately I’m so hyped to read it,and my hopes are too high I don’t think it cloud meet my expectations.
9- Fireblood (FROSTBLOOD SAGA #2) by Elly Blake
Why I am avoiding it? I nearly forgot everything from the first book, even though I remember enjoying it so much, to complete the series I have to reread the first book, and I’m worried if I do reread it, I may not like it as much.
10- The Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser
Why I am avoiding it? This book is translated, in my experience, reading a book it it’s original language is always better, sometimes translators change things or change the writing style sometimes. the premise of this book sounds so interesting.

Throne of Glass series is a commitment but so worth it. Three Dark Crowns is really good.

I know it’s worth it,I’m trying to find a time when I’m free so I can get sunk in them, and marathon the whole series, I hope to read them soon.

I hope you love them as much as I did. Don’t skip Tower of Dawn even if you aren’t a Chaol fan. It is important to the story. Some people just skip it and they miss so much.

I won’t. I used to like Chaol so much at the beginning, I still like him till now, just not as much as I used to.

He isn’t at his best in book 3. He is so hurt and betrayed. I have always loved Chaol. I don’t like Dorian.

That’s a totally understandable reason for not reading Wonder Woman: Warbringer.

Do you think you’ll ever read Magic Study? I hope that character is somehow at least referenced in it.

I loved the first Red Queen but I’ve heard so many mixed things about the subsequent books. So even though I have book 2, I haven’t read it.
Same with Caraval, actually. I bought it a few months ago but I’m worried I may not like it 😦

You could always check out Recaptains instead of rereading the books! It’s a really useful site full of book series recaps. That said, I want to reread Throne of Glass before I get to Empire of Storms because I think I’d really enjoy the experience!

Thank you, that is very helpfull. it is been years since I read Thorne Of Glass so I think rereading will give me another perspective, and like you said it is an enjoyable experience.

I haven’t read the Poison Study series but I really want to! I also have a hard time with hyped books and I take years to end up reading them, so I totally get that 🙂

I’ve only read one of the DC Icons books (I’m not a big superhero fan). The Marie Lu Batman book definitely had a lot of her style written into it, so the Leigh Bardugo book might too. I’ve read books originally written in English in other languages and sometimes the translator has to take artistic license because the words don’t translate exactly. I found a mistake in one of the translations (they translated the word four as nine… I sent a message to the publisher on that one).

I’ve seen REALLY good things about “Three Dark Crowns,” too, but haven’t felt like it’s one to pick up, likely because it’s not a genre I read much from. I do want to give Victoria’s books a chance, and also have heard all the hype about Maggie’s ‘Raven’ series. I recently unhauled all of my Sarah J. Maas books because I realized I wasn’t ever going to read them. Hope you’re able to read these soon! Thanks for the Finding Wonderland visit.

I have no idea why you’re avoiding Passanger! I really enjoyed it so I hope you get to it soon:) (btw love all the pics of BTS + Taylor)

I forgot to write the reason, it’s because I have read books about time travel before and they disappointed me, I’m worried Passenger will be the same.

It took me FOREVER to get to Magic Study, and I still need to read the third one…

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Good luck getting to the third one.

I definitely get being cautious about overhyped books. I really loved Caraval though, I hope you do too if you get to it! Great list!

I’m in a similar position with Caraval – I’m not sure it can live up to it’s hype! 😊

Oh wow!! Seeing a LOT of faves here! And yay the original cover of Magic Study! I ADORE this series…in its whole world entirety! I can possibly tell you what character may or may not be there. It’s been a few years since I read it, but if it was a major character, I can definitely tell you! 😉
Caraval…omg I am obsessed with that series. But I TOTALLY understand about avoiding hyped books. I gave in and tried Throne of Glass and my expectations were set SO HIGH for that one and I was let down immensely. Never read beyond the first book.
I just finished reading Nightblood, the final book in the Frostblood Saga and while I may have forgotten some of the details of the first two books as well, I have to say that I still full-heartedly loved Nightblood!
Wonder Woman was also really good! I still need to read Catwoman and Batman was pretty awesome! They are making them into graphic novels now from what I gathered! Batman and Wonder Woman are already slated for release dates but I haven’t heard anything on the other two.
Wow. Long comment. Sorry for the rambling! Lol.
Thanks for visiting my TTT post! 😀

I have checked Caraval out of the library like three times and haven’t read it yet. Like you said, it’s hard for me to read such an hyped book.

I read The Raven Boys a few years ago and was decidedly underwhelmed. I know so many people that love it but I decided not to continue the series. There were just too many other books that I was excited to read.

This is a great list! I agree I tend to avoid hyped books because they are often a let down. If it’s any help- I sort of want to read The Book Jumper now… I’ll take a chance on translated stuff!

I enjoyed The Dream Thieves (and Blue Lily, Lily Blue) much more than The Raven Boys but I understand not wanting to continue a series if you were disappointed by the first book.

I felt the same about The Raven Cycle and the sequels disappointed me even more.

I had to tap out of the Red Queen series, book #3 was enough for me.
It’s hard sometimes, because we project our own hype and expectations on to books and sometimes they just cannot live up to it! I have read The Raven Boys and I was a bit disappointed too, never went on with the series even though I’ve been thinking about maybe giving it another go lately.

Three Dark Crowns is one I’ve been avoiding too and I don’t even really know why, lol.

Reading hyped books can be so complicated and daunting because taste is so subjective. You have to disconnect yourself from the hype and only read them if the premise seems interesting, you know? Or else, you’ll just be disappointed. I really enjoyed Caraval (one of my favourite trilogies of all time) but it is certainly flawed! I hope that if ever you get to any of these, you enjoy them. If not, I hope that you read books that are thoroughly enjoyable and your cup of tea.
